Open Positions

The Life & Medical Sciences Institute (LIMES) of the University of Bonn, Program Unit Development, Genetics & Molecular Physiology (Director: Prof. Michael Hoch, spokesman of SFB 645) is offering

2 PhD positions (TV-L 13/2) and
1 Post doc (TVL 13) position

Our lab studies the crossregulation of cell growth, ageing and innate immunity, lipid metabolism and gap junction communication. Using genetic screens in the fruit fly Drosophila, we have identified in the last years new key regulators such as steppke (Fuss et al., Nature 2006), wurst (Behr et al., Nat Cell Biol, 2007) and wech (Löer et al., Nat Cell Biol, 2008) which are involved in insulin signalling, lipid storage, endocytosis, or microRNA-dependent regulation of cell growth and tumor formation. Some of the regulators have single orthologs in mice and humans and we are starting to analyse their role in mouse models.

The positions will be available immediately. The projects will focus on the functional characterization of regulators in Drosophila or their orthologs in the mouse/human system. They will be discussed in detail with possible candidates and also depend on the previous expertise and interest of the successful applicants.

We seek highly motivated and skilled candidates who have experience either in Drosophila or mouse model systems and who must have a strong background in molecular and cell biology or biochemistry. Excellent English skills are required. The LIMES Institute is an international, English-spoken Institute that provides an outstanding interactive environment, with state-of the art service facilities (www.limes-bonn.de). It is located in the heart of Bonn.

Applications should be sent by e-mail to Prof. Michael Hoch (application@limes-bonn.de) including a CV, a publication list, a summary of research interests and experience and 2 contacts for recommendation letters of previous supervisors.
